Marcelo Conti
Composer | Multi-Instrumentalist | Founder of AVOA Music

Marcelo Conti is a Brazilian composer and multi-instrumentalist whose work explores music as an active part of narrative storytelling. His scores shape emotional space, rhythm, and perception — guiding audiences through tension, transformation, and the inner life of a story.

Key Projects & Achievements

  • Narcisa’s Will (Herança de Narcisa) — original score and full musical direction for a psychological thriller. Developed the film’s sonic identity through orchestral, electronic, and experimental textures. Selected at Cinequest (USA) and awarded Best Film at Festival do Rio.
  • 200+ original scores for international productions (TV5Monde, France 3, France 5), including documentary and series work, emphasizing speed, adaptability, and narrative consistency.
  • Awarded Best Artistic Short Film (Seiva) and Best Original Score (Asmodea), among other international recognitions.

Musical Approach

Marcelo’s process blends composition, sound design, and intercultural research. He collaborates closely with directors and editors, building narrative-driven music that adapts to editing, pacing, and story arcs — from flexible libraries for series to immersive, bespoke feature scores.

Formation & Research

  • Bachelor’s in Brazilian Strings; advanced studies in composition, orchestration, and aesthetics.
  • Afro-Cuban rhythms with José Quisquedo; Música Universal under Itiberê Zwarg.
  • Tabla & Hindustani classical music in India, expanding rhythmic, temporal, and structural understanding.
  • Extensive performance experience in Brazil and Europe, across orchestras, ensembles, and solo projects.

Studio & Philosophy

Marcelo works from his personal studio in Rio de Janeiro, integrating instruments from Indian, Arabic, African, South American, and European classical traditions with contemporary electronic production. He approaches each project as a dramaturgical construction — where harmony, texture, rhythm, and silence carry meaning.

At the core of his artistic identity:

  • Listen deeply.
  • Feel the story’s emotional architecture.
  • Compose music that belongs fully to the world of the film.
